- Limiting alcohol consumption.

If lifestyle changes alone are not sufficient to lower your blood pressure, your doctor may prescribe medication. It is essential that you take any prescribed medication exactly as directed and never stop taking it without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well.
The Body's Reaction to Intense Cold

The body's primary response is a powerful, protective reflex. To prevent heat loss, the blood vessels in your skin and extremities (peripheral vasoconstriction) narrow dramatically. This shunts blood away from the surface and towards your vital organs in the core of your body. During this process, the blood becomes enriched with oxygen and nutrients.
When you step out of the chamber after your session, the opposite happens. Your body starts to warm up, and the blood vessels open up again, often wider than before (vasodilation). One study involving healthy men who underwent a series of ten sessions found a decrease in the level of a pro-inflammatory cytokine called Interleukin-6 (IL-6) [1]. A broader review of research on cold applications in inflammatory rheumatic diseases also notes that cryotherapy seems to have a modulating effect on such markers [3]. While these studies were not about blood pressure, the observation that systemic cold can influence the inflammatory response is of interest, as chronic inflammation is known to contribute to arterial stiffness and dysfunction.

The main limitations of current research are that studies often use small groups of participants, are conducted over short periods, and frequently involve healthy, young individuals rather than those with chronic conditions like hypertension. Therefore, any potential benefits for blood pressure management can only be cautiously inferred and must be considered secondary to established medical treatment.
