The diagnosis is often based on specific criteria, such as the Rome IV criteria, which define IBS as recurrent abdominal pain, on average, at least one day per week in the last three months, associated with two or more of the following: it is related to defecation, it is associated with a change in frequency of stool, or it is associated with a change in form (appearance) of stool.
Crucially, your doctor will also work to rule out other, more serious conditions that can present with similar symptoms. These include inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), coeliac disease, and in some cases, colorectal cancer. This may involve blood tests, stool samples, and potentially a colonoscopy. Receiving a formal diagnosis is a vital step; it provides reassurance that a more severe underlying disease is not present and allows you to begin a structured management plan.

FODMAPs (Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides, and Polyols) are types of carbohydrates that are poorly absorbed in the small intestine and can be fermented by gut bacteria, leading to gas, bloating, and pain. Preparing for Your Cold Therapy Session in Memmingen

Are there any side effects to the cold application?
The most common effects are temporary and mild, such as redness and tingling of the skin as it rewarms. More serious side effects like frostbite are extremely rare and are prevented by following the correct procedures, ensuring the skin is dry, and using the protective clothing provided.
